Mood (Humour, Stimmung)

Explanatory Text (English)

The term "mood" is fundamental to the study of affective experience, describing a general, enduring emotional climate that colors one's perception of the world without necessarily being tied to a specific object, person, or event. Unlike a focused emotion (such as "anger with my boss"), mood is a pervasive state, or Gemüts-gestimmtheit (a determination of the disposition/temperament), which can profoundly influence one's consciousness and judgment.

In the context of the Affective Atmosphere project, Mood, along with terms like Humour and the German Stimmung, defines the interior, subjective component of atmosphere. While the external atmosphere is the objective quality of a space (a quasi-thing), one's internal mood acts as a filter, shaping how that atmosphere is received, thereby linking the objective environment with subjective, felt-bodily experience.
